Stang Bladeworks was founded from a lifelong appreciation for well-made knives. That passion began in childhood, spending time with Derek's grandfather, who always carried interesting knives and sparked an early fascination with quality tools.
Today, every knife is built with the same philosophy: create dependable, hard-working tools that are made to be used, built to last, and finished to the highest standard possible. Rather than chasing trends, the focus is on continuous improvement, consistency, and craftsmanship.
The Story Behind The Designs
The Boardwalk
The Boardwalk represents Derek's roots as a knife maker. Long before CNC machining, he was hand-drawing and cutting fixed blade designs by hand. It became the first knife he ever sold and remained his favorite fixed blade pattern.
When the time came to machine a fixed blade, choosing the Boardwalk was an easy decision.
The Pyrenees
The Pyrenees is Derek's interpretation of the classic "holy trinity" of folding knives—drawing inspiration from Strider, Chris Reeve, and Hinderer. His goal was to create a true blue-collar work knife: a dependable tool that any craftsman could take pride in carrying every day.
The name comes from Derek's dog, Rambo, a Great Pyrenees. Since "Rambo" was already associated with another well-known knife, naming it after the breed felt like the perfect fit.
